The playoffs weren't in questions, but homefield advantage, as well as the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse opponent were still up in the entering the final weekend of play.
The Lakers hit the road to battle the Bishops Gaiters, with the possibility of hosting a playoff game if they were able to come away with a couple wins.
Unfortunately, the Lakers fell 18-5 and 15-12 during their trip to Sherbrooke, QC and will finish 4-8 and in fifth place in the East Division.
On Saturday, it was a tough second half that sunk the Lakers.
After down just 6-3 at the mid-game break, Bishops outscored Nipissing 12-2 in the final two quarters to open the game up and cruise to the win.
It was 2-2 after the first quarter and Bishops held a 5-3 lead in the second, but the wheels fell off for the Lakers in the third.
The loss meant Nipissing would be on the road for the post-season.
Scott Dominet led the attack with a hat-trick, while
Tyler Goodchild and
Alex DeGagne each added a goal and an assist.
On Sunday, looking for a bit of revenge and to finish the year off the right way, the Lakers put in a much better effort and made a late game push, but it wasn't enough.
Down 14-7, the Lakers scored five goals in the fourth quarter, but Bishops held on to earn the weekend sweep.
On Saturday, it was a tough second half, but Sunday it was the first half that hurt the Lakers.
They trailed 10-4 at the break and despite outscoring Bishops 8-5 in the second half, weren't able to complete the comeback.
Nick Chaykowsky had four goals and two assists to pace the Lakers offence.
Doug Utting scored three times and added an assist,
Daniel Miziolek and Dominey each added two goals and Pat Fitzgerald had the other Nipissing goal.
The Lakers have qualified for the post-season and will play their first every playoff game on the road, with the final playoff schedule to be determined in the next week.
