The story of Friday night's home opener for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was pretty simple – one team capitalized on their chances and one didn't.
Unfortunately, it was the visitors who managed to cash in on their opportunities, as the Concordia Stingers walked away with a 6-0 win to kick off the OUA hockey season for both teams.
Despite outshooting the Stingers in two of the three periods, and overall, the Lakers weren't able to bury one and were shutout.
Nipissing carried the play for the majority of the opening 20 minutes, including hold a lead in shots very early.
Concordia kept pace and eventually opened the scoring on a 2-on-1 with about just over five minutes left in the period.
Down only one heading into the second period, the Lakers once again got off to a strong start, but a shorthanded goal that put them down 2-0 took the wind out of their sails.
A third about four minutes later had them back on their heels and a second shorthanded tally put the game away.
The Stingers tacked on two in the final frame, including a power play marker to put the game away.
Talor Joseph was strong early, but was the victim of some unfortunate bounces took the loss in net, making 28 saves, while Phillippe Cadorette picked up the 35 save shutout for the Stingers.
The same teams are back at it again Saturday night in the rematch, as Nipissing looks to even up their record and bounce back.
Game time is once again set for 7:15pm at Memorial Gardens.
