There were a few stories in the first two games of the OUA hockey season for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team.
And unfortunately, neither are really great in terms of success early on in the season.
After a tough 6-0 loss Friday night, the Lakers were better Saturday, but couldn't find the back of the net until the final second of the game and fell 3-1 to the Concordia Stingers.
Phillippe Cadorette has to be one of the storylines to come out of the opening weekend, as he allowed just one goal in 119 minutes and 59 seconds, stopping 69 of his first 70 shots in two wins.
The second item of note would be the Lakers power play, which has started the season 0-for-12, despite a number of quality chances, including 5-on-3 time throughout the two games.
After a scoreless first period, Concordia broke the deadlock with a goal early in the middle frame on an odd-man rush.
Phillippe Hudon beat
Jeremy Pominville, who finished with 40 saves, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Almost exactly 10 minutes later, the Stingers made it 2-0 on what would end up being the game-winner.
Olivier Hinse scored his second of the season.
The Stingers would add another goal late in the third, with just under four minutes remaining to put the game away.
Colin Campbell scored the first goal of the season for the Lakers, as he grabbed a loose puck after a faceoff win by
Erik Robichaud and rifled a shot to the top corner, finally beating Cadorette.
The goal was too little and far too late as Nipissing drops to 0-2-0 after the first weekend of play.
There are positives to take away and it wasn't all doom and gloom for the Lakers, however, they'll need to right the shop quick in the extremely tough East Division.
The Lakers are on the road next weekend, taking on Queens Friday night and UOIT Saturday afternoon
