After a tough road trip, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team has some work to do if they want to make the playoffs and keep their streak going.
Coming off a 3-0 loss Friday night, the Lakers dropped a 5-2 decision to the McGill Redmen Saturday night in Montreal.
The Lakers scored the first goal of the game and the last, but the Redmen posted five in between Nipissing's goals to claim the two points and send Nipissing to their fifth straight loss.
Just prior to the midway point of the opening period,
Colin Campbell struck on the power play to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
Jimmy McDowell and
Craig Campbell earned assists on the goal.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, the lead was short-lived and McGill answered with two goals and took a 2-1 lead to the first intermission.
The Redmen scored twice in the second period to go up 4-1 after 40 minutes, with the shots favouring McGill 30-15 through 40 minutes.
The teams exchanged goals in the final frame, with McGill going up 5-1 before Dylan staples replied for the Lakers with less than eight minutes remaining on the clock.
Brock Morrison and
Sam Gleason earned the helpers on the final goal of the game.
Talor Joseph made 34 saves in the loss, as the final shots favoured McGill 39-26
Nipissing will try to get valuable points in the final five games of the season, all of which are on home ice, as they push for the final playoff spot.
They currently sit seven points behind Laurentian for eighth place in the East Division.
Their final push begins Saturday at Memorial Gardens, as they host the UQTR Patriotes.
Puck drop is schedule for 7:15pm.
