MEN'S HOCKEY: OVERTIME MAGIC LEADS LAKERS TO TWO WINS

The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team spent a little extra time on the ice this past weekend, but it certainly paid off.

The Lakers, who were in the road, needed overtime both nights, but came away with two victories – 2-1 over UOIT and 5-4 over RMC – earning a key four points and have now won three of their last four.

A low scoring game to start the weekend saw the Lakers erase a 1-0 deficit by scoring two straight goals, including Danny Desrochers game-winner 1:18 into overtime.

Harrison Harper scored his first OUA goal in the third period to even things up, sending the game to OT.

Brent Moran was stellar in net, making 30 saves for the victory, as the final shots read 31-24 in favour of UOIT.

Drake Lindsay and Brody Morris had helpers on the two Lakers goals.

Saturday night, the game was a different style, but the result was the same.

The team combined for nine goals and over 70 shots, but the final goal of the game went the Lakers' way.

After going down 1-0, Jake Wright tied the game before the end of the first period and sent the teams to the intermission even at 1-1.

The power play goal was assisted by Dylan Staples and Taylor Davis.

RMC took the lead again before the Lakers scored three straight goals in the middle frame.

Erik Robichaud, Wright with his second and in his return from almost a year off, Guillaume Naud all found the back of the net.

Wright, Staples, Sam Gleason, Colin Campbell with two and Robichaud all earned helpers as Nipissing took a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third, the Paladins stormed back to tie the game 4-4, setting up more overtime magic from the Lakers.

Campbell, scooping up his third point of the night, ended the game and gave Nipissing another two points and their second win of the weekend.

Moran was again between the pipes, earning the victory as the Lakers improved to 3-2-1 early in the season.

Up next, Nipissing remains on the road and travels to the Nation's Capital to face Carleton Friday night and Ottawa Saturday night.
