While it wasn't the full two points, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team fought back to earn a single point Friday night on home ice.
After trailing 2-0 after the first period, the Lakers fought hard to tie the game and send it to overtime, even at 3-3, but it was the visiting UOIT Ridgebacks that took the extra point, winning in a shootout.
UOIT struck twice in the first period, once early and once late to take a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after the first 20 minutes.
In the second, Nipissing came out flying, scoring twice to tie the game.
Brett Hargrave found the back of the net six minutes into the period, with
Erik Robichaud and
Matt Donnelly drawing assists on the power play marker.
Then
Deverick Ottereyes tied the game just after the midway point of the period.
Harrison Harper grabbed the helper on the game-tying goal.
Before the period was out, UOIT regained their lead and went up 3-2 after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Lakers once again fought back and tied the game for a second time.
Guillaume Naud, with assists from Robichaud and Donnelly, made it 3-3.
After a scoreless overtime period, UOIT needed just one goal in the shootout, as the Lakers came up empty and fell short in the end.
Brent Moran was tagged with the shootout loss, despite making 35 saves during the game and another two in the shootout.
Nipissing earned one point and will look to make it a three point weekend when they host the Queens Gaels Saturday night.
Puck drop is set for 7:30pm at Memorial Gardens.
