While the results show a weekend split for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team, they're taking the positives from ending the road trip with a win.
The Lakers fell short Friday night, losing 4-1 to the Carleton Ravens after Carleton scored four straight goals, but Nipissing bounced back and earned a gritty 3-2 win over Ottawa Saturday night.
Friday, Matt Donnelly scored the lone goal to open up the scoring in the game, but four Carleton goals allowed them walk away with the win and two points.
Danny Desrochers and Taylor Davis picked up assists on Donnelly's power play marker in the first period.
Brent Moran finished with 33 saves, but suffered the loss in net.
Saturday, The Lakers built up a 3-1 lead and held on for the win.
Nipissing scored a goal in each period, while
Domenic Graham was strong in goal, making 35 saves for the win.
Brody Morris scored the lone goal of the opening period.
From there, the teams traded goals, but it was
Colin Campbell's third period marker that proved to be the winner.
Brett Hargrave scored in the second period before Campbell tallied in the third.
Brett Jeffries,
Erik Robichaud and Hargrave, who finished with two points, earned assists on the three Lakers' goals.
Nipissing is now 4-3-1 as they return to home ice to face Concordia and McGill, Friday and Saturday.
Puck drop is set for 7:30pm at Memorial Gardens both nights.
