MEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS EARN A POINT THANKS TO LATE GOAL

Despite being the better of the two teams and having a number of chances, including hitting two posts, the Nipissing Lakers men's soccer team had to settle for a tie Sunday.

The Lakers scored a late goal to draw even with the RMC Paladins, as the teams finished in a 1-1 draw, each grabbing a single point.

Right off the bat, the Lakers put on pressure and generated chances, including a Nathan Zak shot that rang off the crossbar less than 10 minutes into the game.

From there, they continued their push, but were unable to find the back of the net as they teams stayed even at 0-0 through the first 45 minutes.

It took until the 78-minute mark before a team found the scoresheet and it was the Paladins, who surprised the Lakers, going up 1-0 despite being heavily outshot.

Just prior to stoppage time, Zak, who came on as a substitute fired a show to the low corner of the net, tying the game.

Both teams pushed for the go-ahead goal, but nothing was settled as they final scored read 1-1.

Each team earned a point, with the Lakers moving to 2-4-1 and RMC now holding a 0-4-2 record.

Nicholas Cirullo grabbed the tie in net.

Next action for the Lakers comes this weekend when the hit the road for a single game against the Carleton Ravens.

They'll be back on home turf on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs, as the Riley Gallo Cup wraps up and the 705 Challenge Cup continues.

Game time is set for 8:15pm at Scollard Hall.
