Despite earning a split, the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team probably feels like they should have had two wins.
The Lakers welcomed the Queens Gaels and Ottawa Gee Gees to North Bay this past weekend, falling 13-10 in overtime to the Gaels before rebounding and defeating the Gee Gees 15-12 to cap off the weekend.
On Saturday, the Lakers led for most of the game, but were unable to hold on to the lead in the end, falling in the extra period.
Nipissing held a 4-3 lead at halftime and added to it after three quarters, leading 8-6.
Queens scored four times in the fourth while Nipissing found the back of the net twice, sending the teams to overtime tied 10-10.
In overtime, it was all Gaels as they scored the only three goals to escape with the win.
Scott Dominey led the way with five goals and seven points,
Will Craig added a hat-trick,
Tanner Poole picked up five points and
Riley Sloan chipped in with a goal as well.
Sunday, Nipissing got back into the win column outscoring Ottawa 15-12.
After trailing 4-3 through 20 minutes, the Lakers took a 7-5 lead into the half.
Ottawa closed the gap after the third quarter, as the Lakers led 9-8.
The Lakers pulled away in the fourth, piling up six goals to secure the win.
Dominey had five goals and nine points in the victory, Poole added three goals and eight points,
Tyler Goodchild had a goal and four assists,
Sam Rooney collected a hat-trick, Craig added two more goals and Sloan finished with a goal and an assist.
Sitting at3-4, the Lakers have a break in the schedule and won't hit the field again until Oct. 20 when they host the Carleton Ravens.
Following that, which is their final home game, the Lakers will take on Ottawa and Queens on the road to wrap up the regular season.
