Box Score 2 On one of their longer road trips of the season, the Nipissing Lakers men's volleyball team made sure they earned at least a split.
The Lakers came away with a sweep of the RMC Paladins Saturday before suffering their first loss of the season Sunday at the hands of the Queens Gaels.
In their first match, the Lakers used a balance attack to pick up a victory – their third of the season.
Nipissing won 25-22, 25-16 and 25-21 to earn the sweep.
Curtis MacPherson led the with seven kills,
James Clendenning,
Steve Wood and
Grady McClure all had six in the victory, while
Eric Ellison was able to spread the ball around, picking up 22 assists.
In Sunday's match against Queens, the two teams split the first two sets, with Queens winning the opening game 26-24, Nipissing bounced back to win the second set 25-20.
The Gaels took the final two sets and walked away with the victory, handing Nipissing their first loss of the year.
Wood had a monster match, picking up 18 kills and 22 points, Clendenning added nine kills and 12 points and MacPherson had six kills and 11.5 points.
Nipissing returns to home court this weekend when they host Toronto Friday night and Ryerson Saturday night.
Both matches are set for 8pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.
