Facing one of the top teams in the league, the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team came up short on the weekend.
On the road taking on the Trent Excalibur, the Lakers lost 21-10 Sunday afternoon, falling to 1-2 early in the 2018 CUFLA season.
Scott Dominey continued his impressive start, notching another six goals and seven points in the loss.
Trent led from the faceoff right through until the final whistle, building up a 4-2 lead after one and a 10-4 lead at halftime.
The put the game away in the second half, scoring 11 times.
Nipissing tried to keep pace, piling up six goals of their own, but it wasn't enough as Trent moved to 2-0.
Tanner Poole,
Tyler Goodchild,
Sam Rooney and
Jack Drinkwalter all tallied singles, joining Dominey on the scoresheet.
Poole, Goodchild and
Will Craig all had multi-point games against Trent.
Lakers head coach
Jason Rudge said the slow start hurt them in the end.
"On a hot and humid day in Peterborough we came out flat and couldn't battle back from an early deficit," he said. "Trent is a strong and deep team with lots of talent. It wasn't our best performance and we will look to some strong practices this week to prepare for our home opener and Homecoming game against Bishop then a rematch against Trent on Sunday."
The Lakers will now turn their focus to their home opener, when they prepare to face the Bishops Gaiters Saturday evening.
Nipissing also hosts Trent in a rematch Sunday evening.
Both games are set to begin at 6pm on the Education Centre Field at Nipissing University.
