Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team seems to have the Ottawa Gee Gees number and earned a weekend split because of it.
The Lakers lost 1-0 Saturday to the Carleton Ravens before bouncing back to beat the Gee Gees 3-1 Sunday afternoon to wrap-up the weekend.
Ottawa has a record of 6-1-1 – their two blemishes – a loss and a tie, came against Nipissing.
The Lakers moved to 4-3-1 on the season and remain in third place with a pair of home games coming up this weekend.
On Saturday, the lone goal of the game came in the 67th minute as the Ravens tallied to take the lead which they held on to and earned the three points.
Mykaela Volpe finished with six saves, but was tagged with the loss.
Sunday,Nipissing bounce back in a big way, earning a key victory over Ottawa.
The Lakers scored three times before the half, taking a 3-0 lead into the break and holding on for the win.
Kristen Farkas opened the scoring at the 20-minute mark.
Madison Logan took over from there, scoring twice before the half-time whistle to make it 3-0.
Logan scored at the 25-minute mark to extend Nipissing's lead, with
Cassidy Korhonen earning an assist on what turned out to be the game-winner.
She added her second of the game and fourth of the season less than 10 minutes later, set up by
Tori Bellar.
Ottawa would respond with their lone goal in the 66th minute, but that's all they would get behind Volpe, who finished with an amazing 17 saves to earn the win.
Nipissing now turns their attention to Ryerson and Toronto, as they welcome the Rams and Varsity Blues to North Bay this weekend.
The Lakers will host the Rams Saturday and the Blues Sunday, with kickoff set for noon both days at the Education Centre Field at Nipissing University.
