It was a real test for the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball this weekend, as they hosted Ottawa and Carleton.
After a loss Friday night, the Lakers looked to rebound against one of the OUA's top teams and while they came up short, they hung in there with a very strong, skilled Ravens team.
Nipissing fell 68-40 in the end, but it was only a few tough minutes that hurt them.
The Lakers, in fact, led 11-10 after the opening quarter and were off to a very strong start at both ends of the court.
Carleton bounced back in a big way, outscoring Nipissing 24-10 in the second quarter and took a 34-21 lead into the halftime break.
Another solid period by the Lakers saw them even with the Ravens, 11-11, but they weren't able to cut into their deficit.
With the game still within reach, Nipissing struggled in the fourth, putting up just eight points, as Carleton ran away with the game and sealed the win.
The Ravens scored 23 points in the final quarter, extending their 13 point advantage into a 28 point victory.
Angeline Campbell led the Lakers attack with 14 points, while
Devanee Dewey chipped in with 10 versus Carleton.
Nipissing heads on the road next weekend when they face Toronto and Ryerson in Toronto.
