A night after a tough one-goal loss, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team bounced back in a big way.
The Lakers entertained the Ottawa Gee Gees Saturday night and despite losing a 3-1 lead, came away with a 4-3 win after trumping the Gee Gees in a shootout.
Jacob Hickey scored the lone goal in the shootout and
Francis Asselin grabbed his first career win in Saturday's contest.
Both teams found the back of the net in the opening period, as the Gee Gees got on the board first.
Just two minutes later,
Colby Tower, back from injury, tied the game.
The goal came at the 12:32 mark, assisted by
Erik Campbell.
The second period belonged to the Lakers, scoring twice to take the lead.
Jacob Collins scored early and
Gael Lubwele scored just after the midway point of the period to give Nipissing a two-goal cushion.
Devyn Mayea and
Danny Desrochers assisted the Collins' goal and Tower picked up his second point of the night, picking up a helper on Lubwele's tally.
Up a pair in the third, the Gee Gees stormed back to tie things up.
The first Ottawa goal came at the 7:40 mark, with the tying goal coming five minutes later.
That was the end of the scoring until the shootout.
Asselin made all three saves and Hickey scored for Nipissing with their second shot as the Lakers earned the extra point.
Asselin finished with 47 saves in the game and three more in the shootout, while Nipissing fired 35 at former Lakers goalie
Domenic Graham, who is tagged with the loss.
Nipissing hits the road to close out the semester when they take on UQTR twice next weekend.
