It wasn't the end result, nor the season the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was looking for, as it wrapped up this past weekend.
The Lakers dropped a pair of games on the weekend, losing 6-2 to the Ottawa Gee Gees Saturday and 3-2 in overtime to the RMC Paladins Sunday.
Nipissing came up just short of the post-season, finishing two points behind Laurentian for the final spot.
On Saturday, the Lakers trailed 5-0 through 40 minutes before getting on the board twice in the first five minutes of the third period.
Kylor Wall and
Colby Tower had the Nipissing goals with
Matt Donnelly picking up the lone assist.
Ottawa secured the victory, however, scoring late in the final frame to take the decision.
Domenic Graham finished with 31 saves in goal for Nipissing.
On the final day of the regular season, the Lakers and Paladins fought into extra time to decide the game.
After a scoreless first, Nipissing scored first as
Colby Tower capped off an impressive rookie season.
His opening goal was set up by
Gael Lubwele and Donnelly.
RMC tied the game before the end of the second period, sending the teams to the intermission even at 1-1.
The teams traded goals once again in the third frame, with the Lakers taking their second lead of the game.
Danny Desrochers scored on the power play, assisted by
Drake Lindsay and Lubwele.
Once again, the Paladins would reply and tie things up sending the game to overtime.
In the fourth period, RMC picked up the extra point with a goal midway through to pick up the win.
Talor Joseph finished with 52 saves, while the Lakers had 32 shots on goal.
