MEN'S HOCKEY: BALANCED ATTACK LEADS LAKERS TO SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

Box Score The Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was hoping to make it two wins in a row hosting the RMC Paladins for the second straight day.

Coming off a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory Friday night, led by Gael Lubwele, the Lakers had a chance to even their record up.

They got the offence rolling, scoring six times and picked up a 6-4 win to even their record at 3-3-0.

The opening period saw a total of four goals and ended with the Lakers leading 3-1.

RMC found the back of the net first and grabbed an early 1-0 lead, but Nipissing stormed back with three of their own to take an advantage into the second period.

Jacob Hickey evened things up, scoring his first of the year on the power play late in the period.

Payton Vescio and Chad Denault earned assists on the Lakers' first tally of the game.

Just under a minute later, Devyn Mayea gave the Lakers the lead, scoring a power play marker of his own.

Mathieu Franche and Ben Garagan grabbed helpers on the go-ahead goal.

And finally, Colby Tower gave the Lakes a two-goal lead as he found the back of the net for his first of the season.

The goal came shorthanded with just over a minute left in the period, with Hickey and Mayea earning assists, both for their second point of the game.

A busy first came to an end with the Lakers up by three.

Denault added his second point of the game early in the second scoring on the power play.

Vescio picked up his second assist and Matt Paul found the scoresheet as well, setting up Denault's tally.

The goal gave Nipissing a 4-1 lead, but two goals by the Paladins before the end of the second, cut the Lakers lead to 4-3.

After 40 minutes, the Lakers led by just a goal.

In the third, Garagan restored a bit of a cushion, scoring near the midway point of the frame.

Vescio was once again the setup man, scoring his third assist of the game.

RMC answered Garagan's goal with one of their own, a power play marker, to once again draw within one.

The goal came with just under seven minutes left in regulation.

Another special teams goal – the seventh of the game – came from Paul, who had an assist earlier in the game.

The goal gave Nipissing a 6-4 lead with six minutes left in the game.

Tower added to his game totals, as did Vescio, with his fourth assist.

In total, there have been six power play goals and one shorthanded marker.

Seven Lakers had multi-point games in Saturday's victory.

Brett Epp got the call in net again, turning aside 25 saves in the win, while the Lakers peppered the RMC net with 47 shots.

Next up for the Lakers is a date with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on the road next weekend.

Game time is set for 3pm on Friday afternoon in Oshawa.
