Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 It's safe to say the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team has had absolutely no luck this season.
The Lakers have fought hard throughout the first half of the season, but haven't seen the results of that hard work.
This past weekend was a perfect example as they dropped a pair of overtime decisions on the road, falling to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 2-1 Friday night and 3-2 Saturday afternoon, both in the extra period.
Friday in the opening game of the weekend,
Harrison Caines got the Lakers on the board early in the third, but less than a minute late, the Ridgebacks tied.
They then capped off the win in overtime, scoring at the 3:15 mark to claim the extra point.
Zach Roy was very good and busy again, making 43 saves in the loss.
On Saturday, the Lakers fought to tie the game after trailing twice before coming up short in the overtime period.
All four goals in regulation came in the second period, with the Ridgebacks going up 1-0 before Charler Farmer tied the game 40 seconds later.
Pascal Valcourt and
Devyn Mayea grabbed assists on the goal.
Ontario Tech took the lead again, but three minutes later,
Alexander De Gagne tied things up, with less than three minutes to go in the middle frame.
Cole Stewart picked up the helper on the tying goal.
Early in the overtime, the Ridgebacks picked up their second straight overtime win over Nipissing, their third extra time win of the season, with all four games being decided by a single goal.
Roy was strong again, finishing with 35 saves.
The Lakers are back in action January 6 and 7, as they host the Queen's Gaels at Memorial Gardens.
