Box Score Coming off many their best performance of the season Friday night, in a 4-2 win over the McGill Redbirds, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team was hoping for more of the same Saturday.
The Lakers and Redbirds wrapped up their two game weekend set with a matinee at Memorial Gardens.
While they once again competed, the Lakers weren't able to sweep the weekend, falling 6-1Â in the second game.
McGill jumped out to an early lead, scoring at the 6:33 mark to take the lead.
They would double their advantage just over seven minutes later, finding the back of the net after a loose puck snuck its way to the slot.
Up 2-0, the shots also favoured McGill 12-9 after 20 minutes.
McGill added to their lead less than five minutes into the middle frame.

Zach Roy denied a sure McGill goal, the Redbirds finally broke through.
Off the rush, McGill found the back of the net to go up 3-0.
Just ahead of the midway point of the period, the Lakers got on the board thanks to gaining momentum from a power play opportunity.
Despite not scoring, Nipissing kept the pressure up and
Kyle Foreman finished off a nice passing play to cut into the Redbirds lead.
Parker Bowman and
Charles Farmer earned assists on the first Lakers goal.
After the goals, the Lakers took over, but were unable to close the gap anymore before the end of the second period.
After forty minutes, the Lakers trailed 3-1 and 27-19 in the shot department.
In the third, McGill quickly added to their lead, scoring twice in the first four minutes to go up 5-1 and take firm control of the game.
Another goal, just before the midway point of the third put McGill up 6-1.
A strong third gave McGill the win as both teams settled for the weekend split.
Roy was busy and finished with 36 saves, while the Lakers managed 26 shots of their own.
Next up, Nipissing hosts RMC in the team's annual Military Appreciation Night.
The game is set for Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3:30pm.
