Box Score Looking for the weekend split, the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team wrapped up their two game set with the Queen's Gaels Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gardens.
The Lakers, despite a deserving effort, came out on the wrong side of a 4-2 decision Friday night.
It took some extra time, but eventually, the Gaels snuck away with a 4-3 victory in a shootout.
In the first, the Lakers broke the deadlock a minute before the midway point of the period, grabbing the game's first goal.
Cole Stewart tapped home a perfect feed by
Harrison Caines to put Nipissing up 1-0.
Pascal Valcourt grabbed the second assist on the tally.
Just over five minutes later, the Gaels tied the game thanks to a power play marker as they made no mistake taking advantage of their opportunity from the slot.
With the teams playing four-on-four, Nipissing regained the lead.

Jordan Spadafore to put the Lakers up 2-1.
Harrison Caines earned his second assist of the night, grabbing the other helper.
An exciting first period came to an end with the Lakers up 2-1 on the Gaels and doubling them in shots, up 14-7.
In the middle frame, it took almost 15 minutes for either team to find the back of the net, but the Gaels managed to even things up, scoring on the rush to make it 2-2.
Nipissing responded well, putting on pressure in the offensive zone and they were rewarded with a four minute power play, as the Gaels were tagged with a double-minor for high-sticking.
It didn't take long for the Lakers to capitalize, as Caines picked up his third point of the game, snapping home the go-ahead goal.
Stewart added his second point of the night with one assist and
Payton Vescio grabbed the other helper.
Nipissing was just seconds away from taking a one goal lead into the second intermission, but the Gaels managed to tie things up yet again, scoring with 8.4 seconds left to make it 3-3 after 40 minutes.
Queen's had a big advantage in the shot department in the middle frame, outshooting the Lakers 18-9 and now lead 24-23 through two periods.
The third period saw chances at both ends, but neither team was able to break the tie and the game headed to overtime.
In the 3-on-3 extra period, both teams had chances as well as a power play opportunity, but ultimately the game was decided in a shootout.
Shots after 67 minutes of play were 39-35 in favour of the Gaels.
In the shootout, the Gaels managed the lone goal,
Michael Herringer was back between the pipes after missing much of the first half of the season due to injury.
He finished with 36 saves, while Nipissing had 35 shots of their own on the Gaels net.
Up next, the Lakers host the Concordia Stingers for a weekend set on Friday and Saturday night at Memorial Gardens.
