The Lakers Ringette team participated in a grueling competition as they took part in the in the University Challenge Cup. The Canadian University Championships were hosted by Carleton University and saw the Lakers play nine games in five days in Ottawa, coming away with a Tier 2 bronze medal.
Overall, the Lakers finished with a 4-4-1 record.
Round Robin
After a tight preliminary round that saw the team go 1-2-1 and bumped to the B pool by one point, the Lakers secured wins against Waterloo in overtime and Trent before suffering a tough loss to Brock, 5-4 and Carleton in the semis, 3-1.
Semi-Finals – L 3-1 vs. Carleton
The semis saw the Lakers dominate the play hitting three crossbars and two posts, but could not get it passed a hot goalie.Â
Bronze Medal Game – W 4-3 vs. Trent
In the bronze final the Lakers defeated Trent 4-3 thanks to goals by
Fai Lesko,
Kaylin Rose,
Eve Kobe and the game winning goal from
Lauryn Hamilton with only 1:21 to play in the game.
