WOMEN'S HOCKEY: LABERGE AND MCKEE EARN USPORTS ALL-CANADIAN ACCOLADES

After another successful season and OUA awards, two of the Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team's top players earned national recognition Wednesday night.

Maggie McKee and Madison Laberge, who both earned huge honours from the OUA, as McKee was named Forward of the Year and a first team all-star, while
Madison Laberge earned Defender of the Year and first team all-star, both claimed USports All-Canadian acknowledgment.

Laberge was named a first team All-Canadian and McKee was named a second team All-Canadian.

The awards were handed out Wednesday night in Waterloo at the USports banquet.

 
Madison Laberge – First Team All-Canadian
Hometown: Val Therese, ON
Position: Defence
Program: BPHE/Education
Year: 5
Stats: Goals: 7, Assists: 16, Points: 23, PPG: 6
Laberge was a force from the backend, posting the most points as a blueliner in the OUA season the 2012 season.

She finished fourth in the league in assists and was tied for eighth overall in points.

She also ranked 11th in assists in the country and tied for fourth in power play goals.

The Val Therese, ON native had six multi-point games, a four-point game, a three-point game and four two-point efforts.

She suited up for her 100th game during the season and recorded her 50th assist during the year.

Possessing a powerful shot and quarterbacking the power play, Laberge set career highs in goals, assists, power play goals and points this year, capping off her career in style.
 
Maggie McKee – Second Team All-Canadian
Hometown: London, ON
Position: Forward
Program: BPHE/Education
Year: 5
Stats: Goals: 10, Assists: 21, Points: 31, GWG: 3, PPG: 2
McKee was the engine for the Lakers offence, leading the team and league in points (tie) and assists.

She was third in the Canada in points and assists, as well as tied for 12th in game-winning goals.

She started the year with a seven-game point streak, posting nine points.

The London, ON product followed that up with a nine-game point streak, scoring 14 points and added another three-game point streak, where she tallied seven points.

She had nine multi-point efforts and two three-point games.

The skilled forward had points in 20 of the team's 26 games and eclipsed the 100 games played marked, as well as the 100-point plateau in the process.
