MEN'S BASKETBALL: Lakers add Andrew Young to roster

North Bay, Ontario – Nipissing Lakers Men's Basketball is excited to announce the signing of recruit Andrew Young to the program for 2026 and beyond.

Young, a native of Kingston, Ontario, is a 6'1 guard. Andrew was a member of Holy Cross Secondary School's team and the Eastern Ontario Elite basketball program.

"I am a lock down defender with great vision, and I can shoot the ball well" Young said when asked to describe his game.

When asked about expectations for himself and the Lakers next season, Andrew said "I want to continue to improve as a player in any way I can. I'm ready to help the team succeed in any way that I can, as well."

"I chose Nipissing University because of its strong player development and the positive culture within the program" Young said. "I believe the coaching staff and team environment will help me continue to grow both as a player and person. I can see myself reaching my full potential as a player and strongly contributing to the team's success."

"Andrew is a talented guard that we are excited to add to the roster," Lakers Head Coach Thomas Cory said. "Andrew has shown a dedication to his craft and a constant desire to improve. He is a hardworker and we're thrilled to see him become a Laker this fall."

Andrew's Eastern Elite squad finished in 2nd place this year in the Ontario Basketball Association. Young also was named the most valuable player for his Holy Cross team as they won the consolation bracket at OFSAA.

Welcome to the Lakers, Andrew!
