WOMEN'S SOCCER: LAKERS EDGED BY RAMS ON THE ROAD

Coming off a big win to kick off the season Friday afternoon, the Nipissing Lakers women's soccer team hit the road for the first time in 2016 Sunday, heading to face the Ryerson Rams.

Unfortunately the Lakers will have to settle for a weekend split, as they fell 2-1 today at Monarch Park.

Nipissing found themselves down 2-0 after the Rams scored two quick goals in the first half and took that lead to halftime.

After the mid-game break, the Lakers came out strong in the second half, picking up their play and eventually finding the back of the net.

The Lakers's goal came from Selena Innamorati who found the back of the net on a penalty kick early in the second half which cut the lead in half, but it wasn't enough despite late pressure from Nipissing.

Innamorati has become a bit of a penalty kick specialist, scoring one already this year, to go along with two last season.

Carlee Bennard made her second straight start, but was tagged with the loss two days after playing a very good game against Toronto.

She was solid Sunday, but sees her record, like the team's, drop to 1-1-0 on the campaign.

Up next for the Lakers is a matchup with the Queens Gaels on the road Saturday, Sept. 3.

The game Saturday will serve as Queen's season opener, while the Lakers will continue on their four game road trip.
