After what started as an offensive affair, the Nipissing Lakes lacrosse team showed some strong team defence to earn a win on the road.
Facing the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa on the weekend, Nipissing clamped down after a high scoring first quarter to come away with a 15-7 victory and ensure they finish over .500, picking up their sixth victory of the season.
The teams combined for nine goals in the opening frame, with the Lakers holding a 5-4 lead.
From there, the Lakers allowed just three goals, while piling up 10 of their own.
Up one heading into the second quarter, Nipissing pulled away and held a 10-5 advantage at halftime.
They added three more in the third and two more in the fourth, while surrendering just two goals, cruising to the win.
Tanner Poole picked up an impressive nine assists,
Will Craig and seven goals and one assists, while
Scott Dominey and
Jack Drinkwalter each added a pair of goals.
Rounding out the scoring was
Sam Rooney,
Riley Sloan,
Bo Peltier and
Carter Tait.
Nipissing wraps up the regular season on the road this weekend, travelling to Montreal to face McGill.
The playoffs will begin on Nov. 2, with the Lakers expected to host a Round 1 game.
