MEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS GRAB ANOTHER POINT AFTER OT LOSS

It's been a busy stretch for the Nipissing Lakers men's hockey team and they have found a way to earn points along the way.

The Lakers welcomed the York Lions to town for a Tuesday night clash at Memorial Gardens and picked up another single point, losing 3-2 in overtime to the Lions.

The first period had the teams flying up and down the ice, trading rushes despite only a few chances.

York led in the shot category thanks to a couple flurries in the offensive end, but the score remained deadlocked 0-0 through the opening 20 minutes.

In the middle frame, the offence clicked for both teams.

The Lakers grabbed the lead as Jacob Hickey potted his second of the year, with Deverick Ottereyes and Lucas Brown picking up assists.

York would score twice in less than a minute, both shorthanded, late in the period to take the lead.

They tied the game at the 18:30 mark of the period and took the lead 40 seconds later with another goal while a man down.

Down a goal entering the third, the Lakers evened things up just 17 seconds into the final frame.

Danny Desrochers made a beautiful move in tight and tucked the puck under the crossbar to even the game up.

Kyle Lewis and Jacob Collins grabbed assists on Desrochers third of the campaign.

The score remained tied through the end of the period as the game, for a second straight week, went to overtime for Nipissing.

Shots read 35-32 in favour of York.

In overtime, after a good chance for Nipissing, the Lions came back on a 2-on-1 and capitalized on a rebound to earn the win and steal the extra point.

York had the only three shots in overtime and finished with 38, while the Lakers had 32.

Talor Joseph was strong once again in net, making 35 saves.

Nipissing hits the road for a pair of games this weekend, heading to Kingston Friday to take on the RMC Paladins and facing the Ottawa Gee Gees Saturday in our Nationa's Capital.

Friday's game begins at 7:30pm, while Saturday's contest is set for 7pm.
