This past weekend's road trip for the Nipissing Lakers women's basketball team was one they won't soon forget.
The Lakers came away with a 1-1 record, losing a double-overtime thrilled Friday night to the Laurier Golden Hawks, with the Hawks coming away with a 75-73 win.
Saturday, Nipissing bounced back to defeat the Waterloo Warriors 58-53.
Friday, the teams traded leads, went back and forth all night until the Hawks ended up sneaking out the win in the second overtime period.
Nipissing led 27-25 at halftime, but Laurier held an advantage after three quarters of play.
The Lakers put up 19 points in the final 10 minutes to tie the game and send it to overtime.
Both teams scored six points in the first overtime period, sending the game to a second.
Laurier came away with the win thanks to a basket with eight seconds left.
Maria Walsh had a monster game, posting 21 points,
Natalie Martinez scored 17 and
Brianna Dodd added 11.
On Saturday, the Lakers showed a lot of resilience and came out on fire.
They held a 20-10 lead after one quarter and led by two at halftime.
They extended their lead in the third quarter and held the Warriors in check in the fourth quarter to walk away with the five point victory.
Finnley McElwain was the Lakers top scorer with 11 points, while seven players, including McElwain, scored at least six points in the win.
Nipissing returns home for a pair of games, hosting the Brock Badgers Friday night and the McMaster Marauders Saturday.
Both games are 6pm tip-off and will be played at the Surtees Athletic Centre.
