What's better than one Dominico? Two Domincos. Obviously.
The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team is lucky enough to have both Maria and
Malory Dominico and the sister led the way Friday night, as Nipissing picked up a 3-1 win over the Ontario Ridgebacks.
Malory scored twice and Maria added the third goal for the Lakers and
Chantelle Sandquist made her first career start and earned the win on Break The Ice on Mental Health, sponsored by Scotiabank, night at Memorial Gardens.
The Lakers scored a goal in each period, starting with Malory's first of the game.
Set up by
Maggie McKee, Malory put Nipissing up 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The teams traded goals in the middle frame, as the Ridgebacks tied things up near the midway point of the period, but it was Malory again who found the back of the net – set up by McKee – to put Nipissing back up a goal after 40 minutes.
In the third, Maria put the game away for the Lakers, scoring at the 15:05 mark of the period.
Katelyn Heppner and
Stacey Henshaw earned helpers on the insurance goal.
Sandquist stopped 12 of 13 shots, earning her first OUA win.
Overall, the Lakers dominated in the shot department, outshooting Ontario Tech 36-13.
Up next, Nipissing will entertain the Queens Gaels on Saturday.
Puck drop is set for 4:30pm at Memorial Gardens.
