WOMEN'S HOCKEY: LAKERS PEPPER THE NET, BUT FALL TO THE GAELS

The Nipissing Lakers women's hockey team threw everything they had at the Queens Gaels Saturday night, but it wasn't enough.

The Lakers came up a goal short, losing 2-1 to the Gaels despite firing 36 shots on net.

The Gaels struck first – scoring the lone goal of the first 40 minutes – as their tally stood up until the 7:07 mark of the third period.

The Lakers tied the game when Ashley Taciuk scored her first career OUA goal in the final period.

Madison Solie and Brianna Gaffney drew assists on the Nipissing goal.

Less than three minutes later, the Gaels scored the go-ahead goal to retake the lead.

From there, they hung on and escaped North Bay with the victory.

Danika Ranger finished with 20 saves, while Nipissing peppered the Gaels net, posting 36 shots.

Up next, the Lakers hit the road and head to Toronto to battle the York Lions.

Game time is set for 2:15pm next Saturday.
