Box Score North Bay, ON – The Nipissing Lakers Women's Basketball team dropped a tough contest 60-44 to the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Laurentian got out to a hot start in the first quarter, quickly taking the lead. The Lakers tried to counter but could not get shots to fall from the field. The Voyageurs jumped out to a 12-4 lead. Nipissing battled back, but Laurentian continued to drive the basket and score, eventually taking the first quarter 18-9.
The second quarter featured both teams not being able to generate much offense. Nipissing was stuck at 9 points until a Nicole Budd 3-pointer gave the Lakers some life. The Lakers scored 4 more points via free throws to end the half down 25-19.
The third quarter began with a 7-2 Laurentian run, as they continued their scoring pace from the first half. Nipissing's Taryn Gauthier scored a team-high 8 points in the quarter, while Avery Miller added 3 off the bench. Laurentian won the quarter 17-15 and lead the game 42-34.
The Lakers showed some fight in the fourth quarter, scoring 5 points quickly and cutting the Voyageur's lead to just 5. Laurentian then went on a 10-2 run to regain their lead, and 60-44 is where this contest would end.
Nipissing's Nicole Budd scored 16 points, and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and a block to her night. Taryn Gauthier had 15 points, 2 rebound and an assist. Sophie Milner scored 3 points and added 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks.
The loss moves the Lakers to 3-6 on the season. Nipissing is back in action Friday, November 21, as the York Lions pay a visit to RJS Athletics Centre. Tip-off is 6PM. Catch all the action live on OUA.tv.
