North Bay, ON – Nipissing Lakers Men's Hockey took 3 of a possible 4 points in 2 home games this weekend at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens in North Bay.

Friday, November 29, the Queen's Gaels paid a visit to North Bay for a match-up with the Lakers.

Queen's opened the scoring at 1:36 of the first period, leading 1-0. The Lakers responded at 6:58, as Kyle Foreman yle Foreman tied the game at 1. Nipissing's Noah Vom Scheidt gave Nipissing a 2-1 lead at 9:15 of the first period, assisted by Dominic Leblanc and Kyle Foreman. Nipissing took a 2-1 lead into the dressing rooms after 20 minutes of play.

Vom Scheidt increased the Lakers lead once again, scoring his second goal of the game at 9:33 of the second period. The score would stay 3-1 Lakers until 18:53 of the period, as Queen's William Bouwer cur Nipissing's lead to 1. The Lakers would answer right back, as Willem Larsen scored at 19:16, restoring Nipissing's 2 goal lead and giving the Lakers a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third, Queen's would score their 3rd goal of the game at 4:56, cutting Nipissing's lead to just 1. Queen's would tie the game at 4 at 11:56, when Sebbie Johnson potted his first goal of the game.

Nipissing found their footing and managed to keep the game tied for the remainder of the third period, stopping Queen's attack from adding more damage.

60 minutes were not enough to decide a winner, so overtime was necessary.

In extra time, Queen's would make quick work of the Lakers, as Sebbie Johnson scored the game winner at 2:24, unassisted, to win the game 5-4 for Queen's.

Lakers goaltender Harmon Laser-Hume stopped 24 of 29 shots in the overtime loss. Noah Vom Scheidt scored 2 goals and added an assist. Kyle Foreman scored 1 goal and added 3 assists. Nipissing was 0/4 on the power play, and Queen's was 0/3. Shots in the game were 29-27 for Queen's.

Then, on Sunday, November 30, the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks were the opponents as the Lakers looked to end 2025 on a winning note.

The first period began at a steady pace, with either team trying to get a sense of the flow of the game. Charlie Johnson got things going offensively for the Lakers, scoring his 5th goal of the season on a feed from Luke Strickland in the offensive zone.

Nipissing had 1 power play opportunity in the period, as Ontario Tech was called for roughing at 17:03 in the first. The Lakers couldn't convert, but shortly after the powerplay it was Mason Chitaroni who scored with 3.8 seconds left in the period, his first goal of the season, on a point shot from the right side of the offensive zone. The Lakers led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Few whistles were blown by the referees at the beginning of the 2nd period, leading to end-to-end play and quick line rushes. Ontario Tech took a penalty at 6:09, giving Nipissing their first power play of the period and second of the game. Nipissing was unsuccessful in converting, and the score remained 2-0 Lakers with under 12 minutes remaining.

Then, at 18:44 of the second period, Chase Lacombe scored his first career OUA goal, giving the Lakers a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Lakers and Ridgebacks took exception to each other towards the end of the period, as Ken Belander was called for a 4-minute boarding penalty. Chase Lacombe was called for roughing on the play, and Gabriel Bernier of Ontario Tech received a roughing penalty on the play. The Lakers led 3-0 after 40 minutes.

The Lakers began the period on the penalty kill, as Kenny Belanger's double minor penalty from the end of the second period carried through into the 3rd period. Nipissing killed the penalty and returned to even strength.

Deandres De Jesus scored his second goal of the season at 8:32 of the period, giving the Lakers a 4-0 lead. Noah Vom Scheidt and Kyle Foreman collected assists on the goal.

Ontario Tech responded, scoring at 13:18 to cut the Lakers lead to 4-1. Kenny Belanger was then called for tripping at 14:01, giving the Ridgebacks another power play chance. They would capitalize, cutting Nipissing's lead to just 2.

However, the Lakers regained their scoring ways, as Deandres De Jesus scored his second goal of the period and 3rd of the season at 14:52, assisted by Noah Vom Scheidt.

The Lakers then kept pressing, eager to leave Memorial Gardens with a win.

De Jesus completed his hat trick, scoring an empty net goal at 18:06 of the third. De Jesus completed his hat trick in the 3rd period, an impressive feat.

The Lakers took home the victory, winning 6-2. Shots in the game were 33-19 for Nipissing.

The overtime loss and win moves Nipissing to 9-7-3 on the season, good for 21 points and 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.

The Lakers have completed the 2025 portion of the 2025-26 OUA schedule, and are back in action on January 10th, 2026, at 4PM on the road at UQTR.
