North Bay, Ontario – Nipissing Lakers Athletics is proud to announce that Lakers Men's Basketball Assistant Coach
Thomas Cory has been named Assistant Coach of Team Iceland at the 2026 FIBA U20 Eurobasket Division B tournament.
Cory joins Head Coach Kjartan Kjartansson's staff for the 2026 edition of the tournament taking place in Bratislava, Slovakia, from July 10-19, 2026.
Cory's Iceland team will be part of Group C in competition play alongside Portugal, Kosovo, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Cyprus.
A round-robin style format will take place before the leaders from group play will advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship game. The three countries that are classified as finishing first, second, and third, will be promoted to Division A.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity with the Icelandic national program" said Coach Cory. "This group is a big and athletic roster that can play multiple positions if needed. The team is full of hardworking and versatile players who want to win. It means a great deal to them to represent their country at a national tournament, and I'm excited to get to work with them."
Iceland competed in Division A of the 2025 FIBA Eurobasket competition and finished in 14
th place. As a result, they were relegated to Division B for the 2026 edition. This is something Coach Cory views as fuel for his players to earn their way back to the top
level of competition.
Iceland gets their group play underway with a battle against Armenia on Friday, July 10
th. The full schedule and results page for Iceland can be found
here.
Congratulations on this accomplishment, Coach Cory!
